Coordinate Systems

20 March - 17 May 2025

IN-GATE GALLERY presents the group exhibition Coordinate Systems, bringing together the works of Konstantin Totibadze, Alexandra Dementieva, and Dmitry Bulnygin. Konstantin Totibadze, a painter from a great lineage of Georgian artists, is known for his still lifes with carefully arranged compositions. His objects are fragments of a well-ordered world, oscillating between nostalgia and timelessness. Alexandra Dementieva, a multimedia artist, bases her practice on the interaction between the viewer and the artwork, using new technologies. Here, the artist engages an imaginary realm centered on the transmission of knowledge through time. Dmitry Bulnygin, a multidisciplinary artist, video maker, and author of large-scale multimedia installations, presents his recent sculptural work. His recurring themes—fragility, resilience—are tinged with a certain humor.

Although highly eclectic, the works of these three artists share the idea to create an all-encompassing coordinate axis using objects as messengers or patterns of the information. Paintings, tapestry, augmented reality, and sculptures function as coded languages and universal means of communication.

Like The End of the Empire (oil on canvas, 140 × 210 cm, 2024) by Konstantin Totibadze, an allegory of the end of a historical era, the artists leave traces and readings of the world of things. Through artifacts crossing centuries or bearing witness to a latent present, the works reveal the symptoms and singularities of their time—fragments of worlds delivering coordinates unique to each artistic universe.
