In-Gate Gallery is pleased to present the solo show by Anatoly Akue (b. 1986) Meeting with Your Nature: The Presence, on view from September 29 until , December 03, 2022.
The exhibition creates a sequence for the first part of two solo shows project Meeting with Your Nature: The Ground, following its main idea and meanings.
For the exhibition the artist showcases paintings, drawings and digital works created between 2017 and 2022. The installation brings together the works in which reality is interpreted through the experience of studying and perceiving the truths and worldview of Buddhism and the external space is apprehended and reinterpreted through Buddhist psychological practices.
Since 2010 the ideology and psychological aspects of Buddhism are playing an important role in the way of the perception of reality by the artist, his relations with the outer world, the senses, and meanings and also in the process of creation of the artworks.
Having started his career with street art, Anatoly Akue transformed his vision and approach to artistic practice by integrating meditation and Buddhist psychological practices, in the flow of experiences associated with everyday life.
The geography of street art and monumental paintings of Anatoly Akue outspreads from Australia to Buddhist monastery in Nepal and street art projects around the world, including Japan, Germany, and Denmark. The aesthetics and "codes" of the graffiti language are embodied in the graphic and pictorial series of works created by the artist in his studio during the past few years.
The form and shapes of Akue’s compositions come from the artist’s imagination, they are symbolical and surrealistic at the same time. The pictorial codes of the exhibited artworks include as its elements semi-abstract images which are perceived as part of our reality and denote the conditional character of the existence of movement, time, space, unity, and plurality. Illusory formes created by the artist are combined with images of the empirical reality that is also interpreted and as an illusory and imaginary space.
A series of graphic works that formed the basis for a collection of limited-edition prints is presenting a visualization of various emotions and states of consciousness, including anger, fear, absolute peace, and openness to knowledge and experience of spontaneous revelations. With semi-abstract images, Anatoly Akue highlights the relativity and duality of perception, exploring vast variety of possibilities for experiencing diverse feelings and states of mind.
Anatoly Akue’s system of symbols, signs and forms is a system of codes and meanings, containing his feeling and understanding of relations, the interconnection of phenomena, emotional space, passage of time, cause and effect as parts of one universal whole.
“There is no such point in the existence that I can’t accept. If to really follow this direction. If not to be afraid of changes hoping that everything is and will be the same, no, the only way is to go there and interact with the world of existence. Then the experience and the sense of the existence will always be even wider, even bigger, even more complete. It's just limitless, it can't really be limited in any logical, intellectual way.” A.Akue
