Vladimir Semenskiy

The painting of Vladimir Semenskiy balances on the edge of a large-format sketch and expressive painting, his images have a recognizable form, but at the same time are filled with movement, vital and mobile color matter.

Images arise and exist on the verge of figurative and abstract, at the dot of transiting vibrations and the movement of energy into the material and visible form.

This language has its own geometry, the geometry of the trajectories of the free form-building movement of color.

The images have recognizable silhouettes, but their content is revealed through the movement of pictorial material, through the artist’s gesture and movement record and fixation.

The combination of sketch elements and an abstract background, represented by large color surfaces, creates the effect of convention and weightlessness of the image that exists on the border of materialization and disappearance, an appearing and disappearing form.

In the works of Vladimir Semenskiy, a game, an illusion, a trace of movement or an imprint of a state that forms in figures, landscape fragments and objects exist in a borderline between the visible and the invisible, illusion and reality.

“Somewhere deep in my mind I keep impressions from light, body language, movements. And to show this brightly I need to step away from the nature. Nature is an impulse, motivation, but an image appears in another dimension – at the level of consciousness.” V. Semenskiy

“The language of Semenskiy’s painting reminds traditional expressionism – but only externally, formally.

The language of his works is the aggregate of many things which determine its quality, perceptibility, depth, consistency, beauty and … modernity. Expressionism of Semenskiy is the Expressionism of the new time and content, of different meaningful context. His art possesses the quality of a mature master who is free and predominated only by his own inner motivation, theme and mood.” A. Petrovichev
